Community: Utopia Northern Territory Anna Price Pitjara, also known as Anna Price and Anna Price Petyarre was born in mid-1960 and spent her childhood and much of her life surrounded by some of the most renown and highly recognisable artists of the Utopia region. Anna’s mother was the late Glory Ngarla (Ngale) and sister to the late Gloria Petyarre as well as the niece of the late Emily Kame Kngwarreye. She is also related to other famous artists, including, Minnie Pwerle, Barba Weir. Having grown up amongst a family of artists, Anna’s natural talent for painting started from young age watching her family doing Batik work but her professional artistic career began in 1996. Anna’s paintings are mainly about Bush Tucker, Bush Yam Dreaming and its seeds which happens to be her plant totem. She also paints about women’s ceremony, body paint, wildflowers and bush potatoes. Anna is an internationally well-known Australian artist and her complex; intricate abstract paintings have been exhibited and held in collections around the world. Being a traditional woman, Anna is participating in Women’s Business learning more about the dreaming stories and her family culture and is a marvellous ambassador for her people and Art of Utopia.
