Collette Smith
Collette Smith is from the Tribe Djungun in far north Queensland. Her Aboriginal name is Koontama which means “Pretty Face Wallaby”.
She is very keen to share her stories and dreaming with everyone. As a descendent from Djungun, MT Mulligan and Ewermin in far north Queensland, Collette spent most of her life in the country with her family.
She always listened to her father and grandfather talking about “Times long ago stories”, her dad’s relationship with his siblings and how the knowledge and inspiration of Art, Culture, and Language was passed down to them. Collette was thought by her father and an elder artist George Archer from young age.
As Collette grew up, she moved to Northern Territory for a few years, then to Western Australia and finally back to NT where she started painting using her experiences from living in different areas, meeting and talking to beautiful people and families of other tribes, as well as taking part in many cultural activities.
A few years ago, due to health issues, she stopped painting but in 2021 she re-gained her health and started painting again following a successful carrier.
